Custom segmentation allows you to group users based on specific conditions, helping you deliver more personalized experiences. You can either use auto-generated segments (see this article for more details) or create your own custom segments tailored to your needs.
Where to Find It
Navigate to the Users section in your Usetiful account, then select Segments.
How to Create a New Segment
Click the + Add Segment button in the upper-right corner.
Enter a name for your segment and an optional description.
Define the conditions that determine which users will be included in the segment.
You can combine multiple conditions to fine-tune your targeting. Conditions can be of the same or different types, depending on your goals.
Available Condition Types
Tag Value: Target users based on specific tags. You can set the rule using one of the following options:
is
is not
contains
does not contain
has text
Day Since Registration: Group users based on how many days have passed since they signed up.
Tour State: Filter users based on their interaction with a specific product tour (completed).
Checklist State: Segment users by the completion state of a checklist.
Checklist Item State: Segment based on the completion of individual checklist items.
Banner State: Group users based on their interaction with banners (seen).
Once you've added the desired conditions, click the Create button to save your segment.
How It Works
Usetiful evaluates custom segment conditions every 24 hours. When a user meets the criteria, they are automatically added to the appropriate segment. Any updates — such as new users meeting the conditions — will reflect the following day.
Note: To use custom segmentation, you must define the
userId
tag. Learn more here.
If you’re using Tags for content targeting, you can easily set custom tags by following this guide.
To delete a segment, simply click the bin icon next to the segment you want to remove. This action immediately removes the segment from all associated users.
